Retranscription des paroles de la vidéo: all right are you a filmmaker who’s been thinking about starting your own videography business but you’re really not sure where to get started or really how to do this well don’t worry I want to break down a couple of the most important steps as far as I’m concerned when it comes to starting your videography business now look I started my business a little over 10 years ago God that is a long time ago and I remember from day one how terrifying it felt to really quit my full-time job and start this thing now granted when I first started my business I didn’t really know everything that I needed to do in order to start my business properly and I had to learn the hard way my goal is to make this thing so much easier for you so that way you don’t actually have to go through the same hoops and battles that I had to when I first got it started so let’s not waste any more time and let’s jump into the first step which is all about establishing your business now establishing your business as a videographer is absolutely crucial as actually crucial for starting really any business now personally I recommend establishing your business as an LLC there’s a ton of awesome reasons why you want to do it but for me the biggest one is liability it’s even in the name by establishing yourself as a limited liability company this is going to give you the peace of mind and allow you to sleep at night knowing that you are protected in your business now there are a lot of extra things that you’re going to need to do and establishing your LLC differs depending on which state you’re setting it up in this this is why working with certain companies can make establishing your LLC super easy one company that I strongly recommend is Taylor brand Taylor brand makes it very easy for you to establish your LLC you literally just go to the website select your state and you go through the entire prompts in order to establish your business it couldn’t be easier now something else that’s also really important when establishing your business is building your online presence let’s face it there’s a lot that can go into it whether that’s social media and websites but let’s actually just keep it super simple and let’s just talk about branding and websites now it doesn’t matter which social media platform you use they all are going to have a link to a website because every business has to have a website it’s kind of like an Unwritten rule especially if you’re a videographer because people need a place to go in order to see your portfolio so when it comes to building your website you want to make sure that you have everything on point and that it looks professional it doesn’t matter how good your work is is if your website is clunky and hard to follow your clients will never see your work so building a professionall look website is an absolute must on top of that you’re obviously going to need a logo and full branding this includes colors and type fonts and everything you could possibly think of when it comes to building this online presence again this is where Taylor brand can walk you through it Taylor brand kind of is like that One-Stop shop for being able to establish everything you need to get your business up and going whether that’s establishing the LLC or establishing your online presence Taylor brand can pretty much walk you through the entire process which is one of the big reasons why I decided to partner with them on this video okay future Brandon cutting in here so Taylor brands has actually gone ahead and decided to sweeten the pot just a little bit more on top of being the One-Stop shop Taylor brands has agreed to give 40% off all you have to do is use code bw40 and that’s obviously going to help a lot with a establishing your business and building your online presence now establishing your online presence is only part of the equation another part of the equation is your actual portfolio now building out your portfolio when you are first starting out is absolutely crucial hear me out as a videographer when I was first starting out I thought that people were going to want to know where I went to school which spoiler alert I did not I was self-taught and did not have the opportunity to go to film school because well it was just too expensive so this meant that I had to let my work speak for me and ironically something that I found was that no one ever asked if I went to film school or really where I learned my skill sets all they cared about was what could I produce and that is 100% how you’ll be judged so how do you go about building an amazing portfolio well if you’re first starting out you might think the best way to go about doing this is to get hired by clients and then take those videos and put them on your website this is a great thought however there’s actually a slightly better way to do this and that is to actually just shoot your own spec ads this means shooting videos that you actually want to shoot and promote on your site the main reason why I recommend doing this especially when you’re first starting out is you will maintain complete creative control over these projects on top of that you also have more time you don’t have crazy deadlines and you really get a chance to make the best work you possibly can because let’s face it a lot of times clients can come in and ask for changes that you don’t necessarily agree with but you have to make it because well they hired you so what happens though if you do shoot something for a client but you really like the video however they’ve as for some adjustments to it that make you sort of not necessarily like it anymore but you still want it to be a part of your portfolio this is where director’s Cuts can really come in play and this is a trick that I’ve used on multiple videos that currently live on my site as we speak see there can be times where a client might ask for a change or an edit to a video that you don’t necessarily agree with well at the end of the day in that moment you are working for the client and it is your job to produce the video that they are looking for however that doesn’t mean that that has to be what goes on your website you can make a director’s cut which is just slightly altering the video and then put that on your website again your job is to promote your best foot forward and only you can make that decision as far as what is your best foot forward so it’s totally fine to make a director’s cut and put that on your site the last major tip I’ll add in here when it comes to the portfolio has a lot to do with actually the work that you put in your portfolio see what you promote is what you will get hired for so what do I mean by that when I was first starting out I shot a ton of real estate video but the biggest problem I had with that was when I started to want to get hired by brands or clothing companies or really just anything outside of real estate I realized that my portfolio was pretty much all houses which meant that other brands couldn’t really see me capturing content for them the problem with that was I was promoting but I wasn’t promoting what I wanted to be hired for this meant that even though I had been doing it for probably about two to three years at this point I had to go back and start shooting spec work in order to attract the clients that I wanted to bring into the fold so be very cautious about the type of work that you actually put in your portfolio cuz that will directly reflect the type of clients that are going to look to hire you okay so we’ve broken down two different elements of the equation but let’s hop into the third and the last one that I want to talk about for this specific video and I know you guys are probably surprised that it’s taking me this long to get to it but that is gear now when you are starting your videography business there is a lot of gear that you will need to get started I mean let’s face it obviously you’re going to need a camera some lenses some camera support as well as a computer to do the editing and let’s think about lighting and audio and well okay hold on there can be a lot that goes into establishing a business and getting the proper equipment you need in order to fulfill your services but I want to talk about a couple important elements that will allow you to be the most successful with the gear you obtain the first tip is to actually not buy as much as you think you need let me explain so many professional videography companies and production houses actually don’t own that much gear most of them are actually renting gear based on the project they’re doing there’s a couple big benefits to renting the gear one of the biggest ones is obviously you have access to gear that you otherwise could not afford to purchase another big benefit to renting gear is it actually sort of funnels you into the mindset of getting the right gear for the project instead of just using what you have access to there have been so many times that I know personally that I fall into this trap where I’ve gone out and shot with my camera because I owned it and I just figured I would use it because I had it and didn’t really think about was my camera the perfect camera for this job and this happens to tons of videographers by renting gear you get into the mindset of finding the proper tool for that job now if you are just gung-ho on wanting to buy gear another huge secret that a lot of production companies do is they buy used gear see when you start working with professional grade gear in the videography world one thing you’ll learn is that a lot of this gear is built very robustly the main reason being is that well quite frankly a lot of it ends up in rental houses anyway so they have to build it in a way where it can be rented out multiple times using by different Shooters and ultimately won’t just break down on set this means that by buying used gear you can actually buy gear that’s been used for you know 1 to three years and it’s still honestly operating just as good as it did when it first came out of the box this is a way to get a steal on Amazing high quality gear without spinning those high quality prices so I strongly recommend buying used gear when you have the opportunity all right in the third and final tip that I have when it comes to gear is all about buying the right gear for you see I understand that there is so much amazing gear out there and it can be very easy to fall for the trends whether that’s a new camera a new system new lighting new audio there can be tons of awesome new gear that comes out but one element that I think gets overlooked a lot of times is how you will actually use it on a day-to-day basis is it too complicated does it require a bigger crew than you typically work with does it require batteries and additional accessories that you don’t really want to invest in just in order to use that camera there can be a lot of additional elements needed when using bigger more professional gear and so one area that I tell a lot of beginning videographers to think about is how can you actually use this new piece of gear on your shoots knowing how you’ll use it and understanding the difficulties that may come alongside that are super crucial when it comes comes to buying the right gear just because it is a better quality or a better image or it might be higher megapixels or whatever if it requires that you have to slow down or it makes the shooting process more difficult to a point where you don’t even want to do it anymore is it even worth it at the end of the day these are important questions to ask yourself when you are first starting out as a videographer there are a lot of things that go into building a videography business and trust me I understand it might seem daunting but one thing that I want you to remember is that it is a ton of fun there is so much freedom in your time and your space and your ability to be creative and to have control over your life that I would not change it even to this day I love running a videography business so much that I not only created videos here on YouTube about it but I’ve actually created an entire guide on running a creative business which you can check out the links down below Below in the description I want to thank Taylor brand for sponsoring this video and helping me put out content just like this so that way more creators who are out there who are thinking about starting their business can know where to go to get started and also can have the tips in order to be successful but thank you guys so much for checking out this video if you have additional questions about starting your videography business definitely check out the links Down Below in the description or leave me questions in the comment section and I’ll catch you guys in the next video peace .

0.04 company that I strongly recommend is
0.04 Taylor brand Taylor brand makes it very
0.04 easy for you to establish your LLC you
0.04 literally just go to the website select

0.04 let&;s just talk about branding and
0.04 websites now it doesn&;t matter which
0.04 social media platform you use they all
0.04 are going to have a link to a website

0.04 make a director&;s cut and put that on
0.04 your site the last major tip I&;ll add in
0.04 here when it comes to the portfolio has
0.04 a lot to do with actually the work that
0.04 you put in your portfolio see what you
0.04 promote is what you will get hired for
0.04 so what do I mean by that when I was
0.04 first starting out I shot a ton of real
0.04 estate video but the biggest problem I
0.04 had with that was when I started to want
0.04 to get hired by brands or clothing
0.04 companies or really just anything
0.04 outside of real estate I realized that
0.04 my portfolio was pretty much all houses
0.04 which meant that other brands couldn&;t
0.04 really see me capturing content for them
0.04 the problem with that was I was

0.04 some lenses some camera support as well
0.04 as a computer to do the editing and
0.04 let&;s think about lighting and audio and
0.04 well okay hold on there can be a lot
0.04 that goes into establishing a business
0.04 and getting the proper equipment you
0.04 need in order to fulfill your services
0.04 but I want to talk about a couple
0.04 important elements that will allow you
0.04 to be the most successful with the gear
0.04 you obtain the first tip is to actually
0.04 not buy as much as you think you need
0.04 let me explain so many professional
0.04 videography companies and production
0.04 houses actually don&;t own that much gear
0.04 most of them are actually renting gear
0.04 based on the project they&;re doing
0.04 there&;s a couple big benefits to renting
0.04 the gear one of the biggest ones is
0.04 obviously you have access to gear that
0.04 you otherwise could not afford to
0.04 purchase another big benefit to renting
0.04 gear is it actually sort of funnels you
0.04 into the mindset of getting the right
0.04 gear for the project instead of just
0.04 using what you have access to there have
0.04 been so many times that I know
0.04 personally that I fall into this trap
0.04 where I&;ve gone out and shot with my
0.04 camera because I owned it and I just
0.04 figured I would use it because I had it
0.04 and didn&;t really think about was my
0.04 camera the perfect camera for this job
0.04 and this happens to tons of
0.04 videographers by renting gear you get
0.04 into the mindset of finding the proper
0.04 tool for that job now if you are just
0.04 gung-ho on wanting to buy gear another
0.04 huge secret that a lot of production
0.04 companies do is they buy used gear see
0.04 when you start working with professional
0.04 grade gear in the videography world one
0.04 thing you&;ll learn is that a lot of this
0.04 gear is built very robustly the main
0.04 reason being is that well quite frankly
0.04 a lot of it ends up in rental houses
0.04 anyway so they have to build it in a way
0.04 where it can be rented out multiple
0.04 times using by different Shooters and
0.04 ultimately won&;t just break down on set
0.04 this means that by buying used gear you
0.04 can actually buy gear that&;s been used
0.04 for you know 1 to three years and it&;s
0.04 still honestly operating just as good as
0.04 it did when it first came out of the box
0.04 this is a way to get a steal on Amazing
0.04 high quality gear without spinning those
0.04 high quality prices so I strongly
0.04 recommend buying used gear when you have
0.04 the opportunity all right in the third
0.04 and final tip that I have when it comes
0.04 to gear is all about buying the right
0.04 gear for you see I understand that there
0.04 is so much amazing gear out there and it
0.04 can be very easy to fall for the trends
0.04 whether that&;s a new camera a new system
0.04 new lighting new audio there can be tons
0.04 of awesome new gear that comes out but
0.04 one element that I think gets overlooked
0.04 a lot of times is how you will actually
0.04 use it on a day-to-day basis is it too
0.04 complicated does it require a bigger
0.04 crew than you typically work with does
0.04 it require batteries and additional
0.04 accessories that you don&;t really want
0.04 to invest in just in order to use that
0.04 camera there can be a lot of additional
0.04 elements needed when using bigger more
0.04 professional gear and so one area that I
0.04 tell a lot of beginning videographers to
0.04 think about is how can you actually use
0.04 this new piece of gear on your shoots
0.04 knowing how you&;ll use it and
0.04 understanding the difficulties that may
0.04 come alongside that are super crucial
0.04 when it comes comes to buying the right
0.04 gear just because it is a better quality
0.04 or a better image or it might be higher
0.04 megapixels or whatever if it requires
0.04 that you have to slow down or it makes
0.04 the shooting process more difficult to a
0.04 point where you don&;t even want to do it
0.04 anymore is it even worth it at the end
0.04 of the day these are important questions
0.04 to ask yourself when you are first
0.04 starting out as a videographer there are
0.04 a lot of things that go into building a
0.04 videography business and trust me I
0.04 understand it might seem daunting but
0.04 one thing that I want you to remember is
0.04 that it is a ton of fun there is so much
0.04 freedom in your time and your space and
0.04 your ability to be creative and to have
0.04 control over your life that I would not
0.04 change it even to this day I love
0.04 running a videography business so much
0.04 that I not only created videos here on
0.04 YouTube about it but I&;ve actually
0.04 created an entire guide on running a
0.04 creative business which you can check

0.04 description I want to thank Taylor brand

0.04 put out content just like this so that

0.04 started and also can have the tips in
0.04 order to be successful but thank you
0.04 guys so much for checking out this video
0.04 if you have additional questions about
0.04 starting your videography business

0.04 Below in the description or leave me
0.04 questions in the comment section and
